Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry

President of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), Slovenia

After graduating from the Medical School at Cairo University in 1985,

Prof. ElZoheiry was appointed at the department of Ear Nose and Throat Surgery,
obtaining his Master and Doctorate degrees, he was promoted to a full Professor
in 2004.

He then pursued a career in education and research, obtaining
a master’s degree in health Professions Education from Maastricht University,
Netherlands in 2005.
From 2006 to 2014 he was seconded to the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Serving as the Executive Director of the
Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme (2007-2012) and
Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister (2007-2014), where he acquired extensive
experience in initiating and managing Research and Innovation projects in
partnership with the EU.

He advised and actively participated in the reform of
Egypt’s Science and Innovation Strategy and Policy, managed EU innovation
grants to the Egyptian Research community, in collaboration with the industry,
as well as public engagement in Science and Innovation. In 2012 he was
appointed as the Founding President of Heliopolis University for Sustainable
development in Cairo.

In February 2014 he was appointed as the President of the
Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in Slovenia.
Representing Egypt, he co-chaired several international research and innovation
policy forums, commissions, and councils, including the Euro-Mediterranean
Group of Senior Officials for Research and Innovation (Euro-Med GSO) and the
African Ministerial Council on Science and Technology (AMCOST) and the AfricaEU Research and Innovation high-level policy dialogue.

He participated as a jury member in several International Science and Innovation
competitions, including “FameLab Egypt”, “FameLab UK”, “Stars of Science”,
Qatar and “IBDAA” (creativity), Lebanon.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Euro-Mediterranean
Studies (IJEMS), a SCOPUS-indexed journal published by EMUNI and the
founding President of the international association “Forum for EuroMediterranean Innovation in Action” (FEMIA) in Paris, France.
